Treasurers’ Election Ends in Run-Off

By Jacob Horn

This year’s student elections for positions on the Council of Twelve,
Honor Council, JSAAPP, and the Board of Managers have come to a close, but the race for Students’ Council Co-Treasurers will continue on to a runoff election.

The initial election results narrowed the field of four candidate pairs down to two, Edin Fako ’11 and Julien Menko ’10 and Seth Kennedy ’12 and Andrew Thompson ‘12, but neither pair achieved the 40% of the vote necessary to claim the election.

In their speeches to the community on Thursday night, both pairs stressed the need for a clearer and more effective club budgeting process.

Fako and Menko proposed creating an Advisory Council to discuss and oversee the dispersal of funds to student organizations and encouraging sharing expenses between clubs. Kennedy and Thompson proposed making the budgeting process electronic to save paper and taking a Club Census to assess the size and impact of student organizations.

Reached by email Sunday night, Kennedy said the closeness of the election attests to the ability of all four pairs. Whatever the outcome of the runoff, he says, “the only thing that matters in the end is that the clubs and community members get what they need.”

The runoff election will be held early this week.
