Off The Record: Time Out

By Andrea Milne

In The Bi-College News newsroom we have a white board that we use to plan issues of the paper, post internship and contest info, etc. We also have a list on that board called “Time Out.”

While the name may be misleading, this isn’t actually a list of the editors who’ve misbehaved over the course of the week (that list would be unmanageably large). No, “Time Out” is a record of the time we finished every issue of the paper on Sunday. We get in the newsroom around 10 in the morning, and work until the paper is done, so writing our time out on the board is really cathartic. We keep each week’s time out up through the remainder of the semester.

The Time Out Board is sort of like a battle scar, a badge of honor those of us who put in the long hours take a twisted sort of pride in showing off to newsroom tourists.

So, I ask myself, why not share this semester’s list with the world?

Issue One 1:45 a.m.
Issue Two 3:50 a.m.
Issue Three 2:12 a.m.
Issue Four 7:00 a.m.
Issue Five 2:51 a.m.
Issue Six 3:54 a.m.
Issue Seven 3:15 a.m.
Issue Eight 1:15 a.m.
Issue Nine 1:49 a.m.
Issue Ten 1:56 a.m.

We’ve still got two issues left, and if the Ghost of Finals Week Past is feeling generous, we might even manage to get out of the newsroom before midnight!
