FUCS Show Extended Caption

By Genna Cherichello

The first FUCS show this year with a keg proved to be great independent of this fact. The lack of a keg over the past few months seems to have refocused the attention of FUCS shows toward the music because there isn’t the crowd that comes through just to pound a brewski and talk over the band.

Polite Sleeper, a trio from Brooklyn, opened Friday’s show. Their lead singer looked like he could have been the son of the Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle, trying to make Daddy proud with his voice and band. He maintained an energetic stage presence, convincing the audience over the course of the show that they should be paying attention. Over their duration of their set, the people peppering the crannies of Lunt came to the front, increasing the size of the crowd from thin to full after just a few songs.

Karl Blau followed, then Lake, of which Blau is a member. These folk artists of K Records were perfect for Lunt basement, switching instruments and keeping the audience intrigued with each slightly different sound arrangement. It was sweet to see certain people in the audience make their way to the stage when it was time for Lake to perform, revealing themselves as members of the band. This relaxing show was a great and straightforward way to spend the night before Halloween.
