It was a triumphant day for the Owls as freshman Meredith Davis became the first swimmer in five years to set a school record for the swim team. Her time of 1:01.02 not only broke the six-year record of 1:01.28 that Kelly Radimer set back in 2004 but led the first-year swimmer to the victory in the event. However, despite the record-setting day, the Red Devils topped the Owls, 145-103, in league action.
In addition to Davis’s victory in the 100 fly, Bryn Mawr swam to three other first-place finishes. Kathy De La Hoz won the 100 and 200 backstrokes by posting times of 1:04.53 and 2:21.53, respectively, while Cea Weaver took home gold in the 100 free with a time 11:24.49.
Davis took second place in the 50 free with a time of 26.08, and Zoe Guastella finished in the same place in the 200 free by posting a 2:06.28.
In the 200 fly, Kelsey Power finished third with a 2:22.64, and Weaver took third in the 100 free in the time of 57.99.
In conjunction with great individual finishes, the 200 free relay comprised of Davis, De La Hoz, Guastella and Weaver swam to the top position with a 1:47.83. They edged out Dickinson’s “C” team that finished the race with a 1:49.25.
The 200 medley relay of Davis, De La Hoz, Guastella and Wanda Lee took home second place with a time of 2:00.57.
Bryn Mawr is back to action when they host Arcadia and Cabrini for a tri-meet on Wednesday, December 2, at 6 pm in Schwartz Natatorium. Before their final home meet of the season in Schwartz, the swim team is hosting the Bryn Mawr community relay challenge. The challenge will have one swimmer teamed up with three college community members in a 100-yard (four lengths of the pool) relay with all proceeds going to the Owls Fight for a Cure initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer and help find a cure.
Another event will be held on Wednesday, December 2, when the swim team will host a tri-meet with Arcadia and Cabrini. The meet will start at 6 pm. Before the start of warm-up practice, the Owls will be hosting a Bryn Mawr community Relay Challenge, where one swimmer teams up with three college community members in a 100-yard, four lengths of the pool, relay.
