Frequently Asked Questions
p>What is The Bi-College News?
The Bi-College News is a weekly journal of the happenings at Bryn Mawr and Haverford Colleges and a testimony to the Bi-College relationship. We endeavor to provide representative, accurate and fair news and information. It’s a great way to know what is going on at both campuses and improve writing skills while having fun along the way!
When does The Bi-College News come out?
The Bi-College News hits the stands on Tuesday, excepting those Tuesdays immediately following college breaks. The Commencement Issue of the newspaper comes out on Friday, to accomodate Haverfest and May Day. For a more detailed schedule, see our Production Schedule.
Where can I pick up a copy of the newspaper?
At Bryn Mawr, you’ll find the paper in Erdman and Haffner Dining Halls, The Campus Center, and Canaday Library. At Haverford, look out for copies in the Dining Center, the Campus Center, at the Blue Bus Stop, and in the library.
Bryn Mawr and Haverford are both pretty small schools. How big is the staff for the newspaper?
Never big enough! It takes a lot of manpower - and some very late nights - to put a paper on the stands every week, so we’re always looking for more people. That said, The Bi-Co has a fantastic 20 person Editorial Board, and approximately 80 total staff members.
Can I write/draw/copyedit/take photos for the paper?
Absolutely! Just contact the section editor you’re interested in working with, and they’ll tell you what you need to do to get involved! If you don’t know what you want to do - but you want to be a part of the action - email the Editor in Chief (astratyner@brynmawr.edu), and let her know you’re interested!
Do I need previous experience to write for The Bi-College News?
No! Writing for a college newspaper is a learning experience for every member of the team, and we’re happy to include anyone and everyone in that experience.
I read something I feel compelled to respond to in print. How do I write a letter to the editor?
Letters to the Editor are a great (and easy) way to make your feelings known, and to keep us accountable! Just send your letter - which needs to be no longer than 300 words for formatting reasons - to letters@biconews.com. If you want to be extra thorough, also send it to the Managing Editor (mnovinso@haverford.edu). He’ll be in touch with you if any changes need to be made. The newspaper reserves the right to edit your letter for length and clarity, and furthermore reserves the right to refuse Letters to the Editor. Please remember that no anonymous letters will run in the newspaper.
